Chesapeake Bay; majestic and bountiful. Over the centuries, from foggy dawns to striking
sunsets, this renown estuary has influenced life in every way.
Kent Narrows, where the rushing tide cuts a channel between the mainland and the Bay,
creating Kent Island. Long ago, inhabited by Matapeake Ozininie Indians, the isle was
the site of the first English settlement in Maryland. Established by William Claiborne
in 1631 as a trading post. Today, "the Narrows," flourishes with waterfront eateries,
seafood markets, packing houses and marinas. Work boats retire for the night here, at
"the Slip."
Rivers called Chester, Corsica, and Wye wind their way through the country. Broad
and beautiful, the haunt of watermen working daily to collect the catch of the season.
Their shores embrace towns like Centreville, Queenstown, and Stevensville, each that
possess remarkable monuments attesting to a notable past.
